The paper addresses the practical impact of changes in the environment for unionism and fi nds that unions in 2004 are doing ‘more’ with ‘less’ than they were in the late 1980s. However, an examination of key aspects of unionism during the late 1990s and early 2000s, suggests that while the condition of Australian trade unions is not healthy, the situation is far from terminal.
